A scientist in his laboratory is not a mere technician: he is also a child confronting natural phenomena that impress him as though they were fairy tales.

Good. *Florian mumbled against the man’s leg before looking up at him, only now really taking in his change of appearance* I guess so… And I am fine, Father. *soft spoken responses, the tiny blond headbutting his father’s hand*

Are you sure, Florian? **He found himself asking as chilled hand continued to pet soft locks, just to get a surer response from the, as it seemed, naturally susceptible child and to quell obvious parental concerns — it’d be quite a shame if Florian fell ill again after all**

Just a little warm, Father. *He responded lightly, the boy’s naturally weak immune system easily susceptible to the constant germs and sickness he encountered while at school, but the boy also seemed to take after his Papa in the sense of not wanting other’s to worry*

Liebchen… **Even would sigh, fingers stilling the youngster’s hair — he did feel rather warm, but since the academic still possessed some type of lingering chill within his form everything felt somewhat unnaturally warm to him so it was admittedly somewhat hard to tell** Let’s go check your temperature then, okay? **this was more so a remark than a question, Even then deciding to use the renewed strength and stamina of this temporary form to his advantage in bending down and lifting his son up so that the blond might carry him on his hip**

Daddy… *Florian whispered and continued to stare up at his father, arms raising up to the blond to be picked up, even if he knew he was a bit too old for it* Okay. *the blond easily giving into his father’s will to pick him up and happily smiling up at him*

“Florian,” the boy pipped up, but still visibly shrank down. Mama said not to talk to strangers, but the boy had surely taken after his Mother’s cat like curiosity.

He hummed in acknowledgement at the name, crouching down to meet where he’d heard the voice from, “Well Mr. Florian, the names Axel. It’s a pleasure t’ meet ya.” He gave him a smile and stretched his hand out for a shake.

He flinched slightly when the man crouched down, “It is nice to meet you, mister Axel.” He responded and slowly took the man’s hand in his much smaller one.

There was hesitance there and Axel put on the best disarming smile he could, “Yer parents wouldn’t happen t’ be around would they?” They couldn’t be far, he found it a bit odd the child was wandering about by himself.

It seemed to work as Florian relaxed slightly and gave the man a childish smile, “Papa is shopping, and I’m playing hide-an-seak with Daddy but he doesn’t know.” The boy explained with a giggle, young wonder easily making the thought of escaping from his parents exciting, “And Sissy is with Papa, but I’ll go back to her soon enough.”

And then everyone died of chickenpox.

The end.
